Garmin India, a unit of Garmin Ltd. has announced Garmin Vívofit 3 activity tracker. A part of the company’s vivo series of trackers, the vivofit 3 adds new features, such as Move IQ (which automatically detects activity patterns) and intensity minutes. Capturing activities such as walking, running, biking, swimming and elliptical training, the vívofit 3 keeps up with users throughout the entire day.
Why Garmin Vívofit 3?
With smartwatches and phones gaining activity tracking capabilities, dedicated fitness trackers have needed to find new gimmicks to stay relevant. Batteries that can last a full year without charging is a great start, as is the Move IQ technology in Garmin’s new vívofit 3 that can recognise your different activities.
Although the vívofit 3 appears to have a smaller backlit display than its predecessor, it’s still water-resistant to a depth of 50m, has the same audible and visual alerts when the wearer is inactive for too long and tracks the usual basic fitness metrics like steps, calories and estimated distance.
Why it’s worth the upgrade?
What might make the wearable worth the upgrade is that while the vívofit 3 is tracking those metrics, it’s also keeping tabs on long durations of sustained activity. When detected, it will automatically document them based on the activity it detects you performing, including walking, running, biking, swimming and elliptical training.
Garmin Vívofit 3 automatically syncs to Garmin Connect, a free online fitness community, enabling users to analyse their daily activities in a timeline view. Users can also track sleep patterns and trends, join online challenges to compete against friends and earn virtual badges.
So when you’re using the Garmin Connect app and online service with the vívofit 3 to analyse your fitness regime over the past few days, you’ll have a better idea of how much time was spent on your various activities.
The vivofit 3 features a backlit display which shows steps, calories, distance and time. While it’s ideal to be moving all throughout the day, that’s not always the case. Luckily, Garmin Vívofit 3 tracks any and all of your movement, including inactivity.
So while you might lose track of time and forget to move, Garmin Vívofit 3 won’t. A red move bar appears on the display and a gentle alert sounds after 1 hour of inactivity. The move bar builds every 15 minutes until you reset it by walking for a couple of minutes.
It automatically monitors your rest when you go to sleep and a couple of minutes of activity resets the display bar, reminding users to stay active during the day and counter health risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle.
Whats my recomendation?
Garmin Vívofit 3 has some great qualities and has the potential to be great. If you want a comfortable counter of your activities that has a great sleep-tracking function and a long battery life, then this is for you.
Overall, a great fit and a good product.
